Tic Tac Toe² is a free app developed by me, Jan Kolberg, published as JayKayCooperations. It contains no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Only online games with friends send data to a server (see below); everything else stays on your device.
Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores your settings (such as theme, language, sound and vibration), your game statistics, your achievement progress, your unfinished game and your name for online games on your device. You can delete this data at any time by clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app.
If you have turned on device backups (Google backup on Android, iCloud backup on iOS), this data may be included in them. These backups are provided by Google or Apple under their own privacy policies.
Game Center and Google Play Games
For achievements and leaderboards, the app uses Game Center on iOS and Google Play Games on Android. When you are signed in to one of these services, the app sends your unlocked achievements and your leaderboard scores (total score, wins against the Expert bot and best win streak) to Apple or Google. Leaderboards may show your player name and scores to other players.
These services are operated by Apple and Google under their own privacy policies. I don't receive your player name or any other data from them. You can play without signing in; you can sign out in the Game Center settings on iOS or in the Google Play Games app on Android.
Online Games
When you play online with friends, the app stores your games with Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore), a service of Google. Nothing is sent before you open the online games for the first time.
On first use, the app creates an anonymous user ID for you. If you are signed in to Game Center or Google Play Games, this ID is linked to your Game Center or Play Games account, so you can continue your games on a new device; Google then receives your Game Center or Play Games player ID for this purpose. The following is stored: your user ID, the name you choose for online games, and for every game the user IDs and names of both players, the moves, the result and when the game was created and last changed.
Your name and your games are visible to the friend who accepts your invite. An open invite can be read by anyone who has its link or code, so please choose a name you are happy for others to see.
The games are stored in Cloud Firestore in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany). Google processes this data on my behalf as a processor. Firebase Authentication may process the user ID outside the EU; Google bases such transfers on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. To protect the service from abuse, the app uses Firebase App Check: it confirms with Google Play Integrity (Android) or Apple App Attest (iOS) that requests come from the genuine app on a real device. More information: Privacy and Security in Firebase.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, as the data is needed for the online games you choose to play, and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for App Check (my legitimate interest in protecting the service from abuse).
Games are deleted automatically: open invites 30 days after they were created, running games 60 days after the last move and finished games 90 days after they ended. A finished game you remove from your list is deleted as soon as your friend removes it too.
Deleting Your Online Data
In the app, go to Settings, Online, Delete online data. This resigns your running games and deletes all your games, your name and your user ID from the server right away. You can also email me your online name and the code of one of your games, and I will delete your data within 30 days.
Internet and Permissions
Apart from Game Center, Google Play Games and online games, the app does not connect to the internet. Links, such as the one to this privacy policy, open in your browser. The app does not access your location, contacts, camera, microphone or files.
Cookies
This app does not use cookies.
Children's Privacy
Tic Tac Toe² is suitable for all ages. Apart from what online games need (see above), the app collects no personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
Security
If you find a security vulnerability that I have inadvertently caused, or have any question about how the app protects your privacy, please send me an email and I will try to fix it or help you.

I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page. Last updated: October 16, 2026.
